Ahhhhhh… the sleepy, tiny details of a brand new bub! Newborns are my favorite, for oh so many reasons…. So sweet and new, the precious little sounds they make, the innocence is all so intoxicating to the senses. I love to capture their perfection…
Newborns have an extremely narrow window of time in which the sleepy, curly poses are possible. After the first two weeks, they start to stretch out and aren’t so comfy in those beautiful bendy poses. Five to fourteen days old is best…with Preemies having a somewhat longer window of time. Please call me during your first or second trimester if possible to schedule your session window and I’ll be flexible in scheduling when baby arrives. Don’t forget to call me from the hospital!
Brand new ones are best photographed in their birthday suits or with as little clothing as possible. If you have any cute headbands, hand-made or hand-knit items for the baby, feel free to bring them along as they can make amazing additions to the newborn’s portraits. Some other examples of fun items might be hats, booties and bloomers (if you’re uncomfortable baring his little bum.) See the shopping links below for some great ideas.
How long a newborn session takes is really dependant on the baby. Expect your newborn’s session to last anywhere from two to five hours with plenty of break time for feeding, changing and cuddling her back to sleep between poses. While newborn schedules can be hard to ‘manage’, it will be helpful if you can make sure that the bub is very sleepy and has a full belly when we begin.
